Dwight with Kasey, his two-year old

Prior to becoming a financial planner, I made a livelihood as an accountant. My attempts at forging a career in accounting included: public accounting; small company (200 employees) assistant controller; and large company (Fortune 500) corporate income tax accountant. But something was always lacking in my jobs.

Much career planning went into choosing accounting as my profession. Personality and aptitude tests taken in high school indicated that accounting was an ideal choice for me. I even took a one-hour career planning class in my sophomore year of college. Most of my peers did not know what they wanted at that age. Those that thought they did had changed majors - many several times. After all the testing and research, accounting was confirmed as a profession for me and I entered business school without hesitation.

Experience, however, has been my best teacher. Vocational and personal interest tests also showed that I was also interested in teaching and social work. Accounting and business were more financially attractive. I did not realize how important to me working with and helping people were until I became an adult.

Financial planning is ideal for me. It challenges my analytical abilities and satisfies my desire to help people. I had already obtained an MBA degree and CPA certificate pursuing a business career. I approached financial planning with the same enthusiasm. The Personal Financial Specialist (PFS) designation offered by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) offered by the Certified Financial Board of Standards, Inc are the most prestigious financial planning designations. I obtained both.

In addition to my financial planning knowledge I bring a wealth of industry and product experience to YourFinancialWatchdog.com. I have worked in the life insurance industry, as a registered investment representative, chief investment officer of a registered investment advisory firm and as Director of Financial Services for a multi-partner CPA firm.

When I am not working, I am either spending time with my wife and son or out riding my bicycle. I served a 3-year term as elder at my church and currently provide community service as a member of the Fishers, Indiana Rotary Club.

This brief summary does not even begin to convey the deep desire I have for providing visitors to YourFinancialWatchdog.com with honest, independent financial advice. Hopefully it shows that I am well qualified and how seriously I take and have prepared for the responsibility of helping you make important financial decisions.
